The inadvertent expatriate blogger behind Soft River Mosaic

Hello, I'm Sophie
I’m a project manager. A parent. An expat living in Zürich, Switzerland.
A few years back, I moved here with my family. What began as a short-term contract gradually became a new chapter of life overseas.
How It Began
Moving to Switzerland wasn't part of the grand plan. Like many expat relocations, it started as a job opportunity and soon grew into something far more meaningful.
The initial months were demanding — unfamiliar systems, new routines, fresh expectations. Everyday tasks seemed more tangled than intended.
The Adjustment Period
There was culture shock, doubts, and a lot of learning by doing. Yet gradually, routines took shape. We found places that suited us, connected with other families, and began building something that felt stable.
Why I Created Soft River Mosaic
Most online information was either corporate-level relocation guidance or surface tourism content. What was missing was an honest, everyday family viewpoint.
This site aims to fill that gap — practical advice drawn from real life in Switzerland.
What This Site Does (And Doesn’t)
This site is about:
- Hands-on experience from living in Switzerland
- Centered on family life and daily realities
- Updated when there’s a real change
This site is not:
- Not a tourism authority resource
- A platform for sponsored reviews
- A generic travel diary
What Comes Next
Our stay in Switzerland continues, and so does the learning journey. As long as the information remains useful, I’ll keep recording what we uncover.
If you have questions about family life in Zürich or anywhere in Switzerland, please don't hesitate to contact us.
Best regards,
Sophie
